‘Blood Honey’ headlines swarm: “Un-bee-lievable Stunt To Promote Indie Film” as Juan Carlos Noguez Ortiz, an employee at Dickey Bee Honey Farm breaks and sets Guinness world record for bee beard in downtown Toronto with record of 61 minutes.

Los Angeles, CA – January 10, 2018 –

Blood Honey’ PR stunt buzzes into U.S. news as man sets Guinness world record for bee beard in downtown Toronto in August 2017 with record of 61 minutes.

2017 was all about ComingSoon’s Chris Alexander world headline, “Not the Bees! Blood Honey Stings Canada”, capturing Canadian audiences from coast to coast.

But now, ‘Blood Honey’ has stung the U.S. in 2018 with reviewers and moviegoers awaiting the film’s DVD + VOD release on January 29th.

Directed and written by Jeff Kopas (“An Insignificant Harvey”, “Dogasaur”, “The Other Side”), alongside Doug Taylor (“Splice”, “A Christmas Horror Story”, “Darknet”), “BLOOD HONEY” is an elevated, psychological thriller that follows a young woman to return to her mysterious island lodge home after 10 years to do her father’s illness, as she struggles to face the demons of her past.

“BLOOD HONEY” follows Jenibel Heath’s (Shenae Grimes-Beech) return to her family’s secluded island lodge to help her siblings care for their dying father. Hesitant and nervous, the island lodge has been a place of avoidance for the last 10 years, due to Jenibel’s horrific witness of her mother’s mysterious suicide.

With each passing day, Jenibel becomes more paranoid as her family secrets begin to slip out. But, when she learns of the horrific plot set against her regarding the inheritance of the family’s estate, her mental health begins to deteriorate with breakdowns and hallucinations, disallowing her to tell what is real and what is not.

Stuck inside a living nightmare, “BLOOD HONEY” portrays the genre of women in jeopardy through Jenibel’s struggle to survive, despite her inescapable memories from her traumatic childhood growing stronger and stronger.

But, what does honey have to do with “BLOOD HONEY”? It’s the significance of the bees.

“Without giving too much away, there’s a scene in the film involving an unfortunate incident with a recreational beekeeper and his “alternative bee family” (think ‘My Girl’ but worse),” reported HuffPost Australia’s David Barden.

Kopas continued, “that without the backing of a major studio it’s ‘extremely difficult [and] virtually impossible’ to successfully promote an indie film,” but the cast and crew of “BLOOD HONEY” made it possible with the film’s “Un-bee-lievable Stunt To Promote Indie Film”, which took place earlier this year in Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto during August 2017.

Juan Carlos Noguez Ortiz, an employee at Dickey Bee Honey Farm in Cookstown (who provided the bees for “BLOOD HONEY”) stepped up to a seemingly scary PR stunt to “show people that they don’t have to be scared of the bees” (Ortiz to CBC News).

Ortiz set Guinness world record for wearing a bee beard with record time of 61 minutes, breaking the previous record of 53 minutes and 34 seconds, reported CBC News Toronto, adding insight from the master beekeeper at Dickey Bee Honey Farm, Peter Dickey.

“We brought 100,000 bees with us, so there are more bees with us today than ever. But we brought the gentle ones so that is very important when we are doing bearding,” Dickey said to CBC News Toronto.

“BLOOD HONEY” demonstrates stellar talent with their Canadian cast and crew with the emotional and panicked lead of ‘Jenibel’, Shenae Grimes-Beech (CW’s revival of TV drama series “90210”, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, “Scream 4”). Alongside, the film’s star-studded cast includes Gil Bellows (“The Shawshank Redemption”, “Unthinkable”), Kenneth Mitchell (“Star Trek: Discovery” – TV series, Freedom’s “Switched at Birth”, “Jericho”, “The Astronaut Wives Club”), Don McKellar (“The Sensitive Skin”, “Blindness”, director of “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”), Morgan Kelly (“A History of Violence”, “Being Erica”, “The Lookout”), Natalie Brown (“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, “Dawn of the Dead”, “The Strain”), and Rosemary Dunsmore (“Orphan Black”).

“BLOOD HONEY” will be available on VOD platforms on January 29th, 2017: iTunes, Sony Xbox, InDemand, Sling, DISH, GooglePlay, Hoopla, Fandango and Vudu.
